Eureka Energy Corporation is seeking motivated undergraduate and graduate students for an 8-week paid internship supporting research and data collection for a pending energy development project involving waste management, solid waste, and related waste streams in a defined regional area of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.
This internship is ideal for students interested in energy development, environmental policy, waste management, sustainability, public administration, economic development, business research, engineering, data analysis, or rural infrastructure development.
Interns will assist with gathering, organizing, and analyzing information related to municipal solid waste, landfill capacity, transfer stations, wastewater sludge, construction and demolition debris, agricultural waste, commercial waste streams, recycling systems, local government waste contracts, hauling routes, tipping fees, and other relevant data points.
The position is primarily remote, but some limited regional travel may be required. Travel-related fuel and meal expenses will be reimbursed when approved in advance. Key Responsibilities Interns will assist the project team with research, data collection, and administrative support, including:
1. Collecting data and public information related to solid waste management, municipal waste systems, landfill operations, transfer stations, recycling programs, wastewater sludge, construction and demolition waste, agricultural waste, and other waste streams
2. Researching counties, municipalities, public agencies, waste authorities, private haulers, landfill operators, and related entities within a defined area of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia
3. Identifying and organizing information on waste volumes, tipping fees, hauling arrangements, contracts, permits, public reports, regulatory filings, and infrastructure assets
4. Conducting online research using public records, government websites, environmental agency databases, local planning documents, and industry sources
5. Assisting with outreach by email, telephone, and other communications to gather publicly available or voluntarily provided information
6. Maintaining organized records, spreadsheets, contact lists, research notes, and source documentation Participating in weekly Zoom meetings with the project team
7. Communicating regularly by email, text, and telephone Supporting basic administrative tasks, including scheduling, document organization, proofreading, and data entry
8.Preparing brief written summaries, research memos, and status updates as assigned
9. Supporting the development of internal reports, project planning documents, and data summaries
Qualifications
-Applicants should be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a relevant field, including but not limited to: Environmental Science Public Administration Business Administration Economics Engineering Sustainability Studies Political Science Urban or Regional Planning Geography / GIS Data Analytics Communications Agriculture Energy Studies Public Policy
Strong candidates will have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to conduct independent research and verify information from reliable sources.
1. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
2. Familiarity with Google Workspace, including Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
3. Ability to manage time effectively while working remotely
4. Comfort communicating professionally by phone, email, text, and video conference
5. Interest in waste management, renewable energy, rural development, environmental infrastructure, or economic development
6. Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines and participating in team check-ins
Preferred Skills The following are helpful but not required:
-Experience with data entry, spreadsheet organization, or research databases
-Familiarity with local government, public records, environmental permitting, or waste management systems
-Basic knowledge of solid waste, recycling, landfill operations, wastewater treatment, or renewable natural gas
-Experience with GIS, mapping tools, or regional data analysis
-Prior internship, office, administrative, customer service, or research experience
-Familiarity with QuickBooks or basic bookkeeping is a plus but not required
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid internship, with the majority of work performed remotely. Interns must have reliable internet access and be available for:
-Weekly Zoom meetings
-Regular email communication
-Text and telephone communication as needed
-Limited travel within the project region when necessary Approved travel expenses, including fuel and meals, will be reimbursed according to company policy.
